Mike and Linda’s Road Trip

When the time came that we realized we had reached the goals that we had set for our employment, Linda and I set about to change direction. After a combined effort of over 60 years in social services and computer programming, we decided to put aside the daily commute and slow down to "smell the roses." We purchased a Volkswagen camper, and after a few short, dry run trips in the area, we gave up our jobs and prepared to leave the dreary, wet climate of the Northwest to introduce ourselves to the rest of the country. We leave with the goal to first get into the sun and warm areas of the Southwest, and then head east.

There is so much that we want to see. The desert southwest. Austin and the music scene where our son worked. El Paso and San Antonio for the history and romance. New Orleans for the cuisine and music. Dollywood and Graceland for the curiosity. Civil war sites from Natchez to Gettysburg and Appomatix. The colonial areas of Williamsburg, Savanah, and Charleston. And that is only if we stay in the south. New England and the northern states open up another entire vista.

And then there are the surprises that we look forward to. In the limited traveling that we have done previously, we have often found that the things that we remember most are those things that we would never have dreamt of. We are hopeful that we can keep our attitudes open to recognize and enjoy these surprises as they occur.

Finally, it is the people that we are looking forward to. Old friends and new. Relatives and strangers. We are looking forward to renewing old acquitances and making new ones.

The purpose of these web pages is to keep our friends and relatives up to date with where we are and what we are doing and seeing. If you join this trip through these pages, we hope that you can, if only vicariously, enjoy our tour through the country as we are.
